Food Hygiene Inspections

The council's Food Safety Team is responsible for the enforcement of food safety legislation in businesses throughout North Lanarkshire.  We do this through our free Food Hygiene Inspection and information service.

  • Food Hygiene Inspections are based on the principles of Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP principles).  Our inspectors identify potential food hygiene hazards and risks that your business may incur.  We do this by monitoring your practices, procedures and processes.
  • At the end of every inspection, we will discuss our findings with an appropriate member of your food business and, if needed, agree on a timescale to correct any issues.
  • We will give you a form as a written record of inspection and, where necessary, forward a formal report within about five working days of the inspection.
  • As the law states, Food Hygiene Inspections are usually conducted without warning.  Sometimes, though, we do inform businesses when we will visit to see or discuss a particular process, issue or person.
