Planning strategy
North Lanarkshire's planning strategy is determined by two interrelated plans:
- The Structure Plan takes a broad and long term view of development, considering its general scale and where it should be located. The approved Structure Plan covering North Lanarkshire is the Glasgow and Clyde Valley Structure Plan 2000.
- North Lanarkshire is also covered by several Local Plans. These are prepared and adopted by the council and should be read in conjunction with the Structure Plan. Local Plans follow the broad policies and guidance of the Structure Plan and set out the council's view of how the area should be developed.
North Lanarkshire Council is part of the national e-Planning Programme. This will provide an end-to-end e-planning service across Scotland and will be available by the end of July 2008.
